Social Networks What To Consider and Why I Hate Facebook!

Social networking sites are a great for the most part and although there are some exceptions there is normally some thing out there for every one. For those who either don't know about social networks or are thinking of joining one but aren't sure about what one to join i have some advice DO YOUR RESEARCH! What i mean is decide what you want to do with your social network experience, weather you want to reconnect with old friends, blog or micro blog, make business connections or just play games with your friends there will be some thing out there for you, but make sure before you join you research and find out. The reason i say this is my bad experiences i have had with Facebook. So why do i hate Facebook? Ok when I first joined Facebook around 5 years ago I thought it was great "oh wow, look at all of the friends i have and they are all playing these awesome werewolf games and people are throwing sheep at me" now days its more like "PLEASE! stop telling me what you are doing on your stupid farm, no i don't want to go to your crappy event i live on the other side of the world!". I don't want every body in my friends list to know what i am doing, there are people on my friends list that i don't want to see what i did with my friends and family at the weekend such as people i work with. I don't want my colleagues to see stuff from my personal life. And seeing that there is no way of filtering who sees what content like Google +'s circles feature. My other major issue with the dreaded Facebook is the fact that people expect you to be on it all of the time, right let me give you an example a friend of mine sent me a message about some work he had for me, now please bare in mind this guy had both my email and phone number, he called me two weeks later we where chatting away and then he said to me "oh why didn't you get back to me about that work i had for you?" having abandoned my Facebook I had no idea so when i said i must have missed your SMS/email he replied "No I sent it to you on Facebook". After which I preceded to tell him that i no longer use Facebook and that it is not a valid form of day to day communication! Not only that I was getting close to 20 emails a day from various Facebook add ons that i do not use and have no interest in! I know what you are all thinking "why don't you just delete your Facebook account?" The answer to that is I thought I did! Okay so I did all the things that I assumed would delete my account turns out that all i did was deactivate it. People where still able to tag me in photos and send messages to my account! So routing through the pages and pages of crap i finally found the delete button, so I hit it all done right? Wrong! After confirming the deletion via the link they emailed me it was done then right? NO! I know have to wait 14 days for my profile to be deleted but if I log into Facebook or accidentally hit a like button the process starts again! It really is ridiculous the right to remove my personal information from a web site should be in my hands no the people at Facebook.

So any way like I said take serious care where you decide to put your personal information and who you share it with. So what social networks do i use? Well I use twitter mainly as I get to decide what i post, I also use Instagram and Soundtracking all of which give me the option to post only what i want people to know about me and what I am doing. I'm also looking forward to Google+ which i missed the beta for but should be launching soon. Work wise as I am a freelancer I use Linked In which is great for keeping up to date with people i work with and business opportunities.
